September's strip of planetary nebulae and a poignant
supernova remnant. I always find it remarkable that the two most famous and prominent planetary nebulae, along with two other notable planetaries, are all located within a surprisingly small strip of the heavens.
Other discoveries in the Milky Way detailed in the special edition include the sharpest image yet of a gamma ray source -- a nearby
supernova remnant -- which will enable researchers to study this object at finer scale than before -- and three new 'gamma ray shells' that are possibly examples of a new type of
supernova remnant.
One image shows a
supernova remnant, the structure resulting from the explosion of a star in a supernova, and the Triangulum Galaxy, which is approximately three million light years from Earth.
They investigated the possibility that the rock drawing is the record of the supernova HB9 and found that only one
Supernova remnant HB9 meets all the criteria and it exploded around 4500 BC with a brightness comparable to the brightness of the Moon.
Washington, April 11 ( ANI ): Researchers have identified a
supernova remnant - known as G352.7-0.1 (or, G352 for short) - that has swept material, equivalent to about 45 times the mass of the Sun.
This is significant because another study already has shown that a so-called Type la supernova caused the Kepler
supernova remnant.
