Established: 1964.
Location:Along the Hatchie Scenic River, 1 mile south of Brownsville, Tennessee.
Facilities:Viewing sites, auto tour route.
Activities:Canoeing, fishing, hiking, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:About 90 percent of the refuge lies within the floodplain of the Hatchie River. The Hatchie is the last unchannelized river of its type in the Lower Mississippi River Valley and still functions under near-normal wetland cycles.
Habitats: 11,556 acres of bottomland hardwood timber, agricultural land, timber uplands, shrub and wooded swamp, and open water.
Access: Daylight hours, year-round. Some parts of the refuge are closed to the public from November 15 to March 15 to provide sanctuary t waterfowl.
Wild life: Migratory waterfowl, wading birds, shorebirds, deer, turkey, beaver, squirrels, and rabbits.
