carpio, Genidens barbus (Lacepede, 1803), Lycengraulis grossidens (
Agassiz, 1829), Gobiosoma parri (Ginsburg, 1933), Hypleurochilusfissicornis (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824) and Syngnathus folletti (Herald, 1942) were included into the category of rare species (Figure 3).
As
Agassiz put it, "The most active imagination is truly at a loss to discover, in such a creature, any thing that recalls the animals with which we ourselves are most closely allied." Best Is Man's resembles an absurdist nature documentary where the animal itself, voiced by Leo Smith, explains the functions of its nervous system and the potency of its venom.

(1) During the last six years of his life, Holbrook made frequent trips to Massachusetts, dying on 8 September 1871 in North Wrentham (now Norfolk), Massachusetts, the town of his early years, but he was buried in Charleston (
Agassiz 1872; Gill 1905; Worthington & Worthington 1976; Adler 1989; Stephens 1997, 2000; Sanders & Anderson 1999; Anderson & Stephens 2002).
"The history of science is filled with examples of individuals with new ideas being met by the current scientific establishment not with enthusiasm, but rather with disregard and some times, even ridicule like Louis
Agassiz with glaciation and Alfred Wegener with continental drift.
The chapters in the middle of the book that focus on scientists like Louis
Agassiz, Grove Karl Gilbert, and Andrew Ellicott Douglass provide the meat of the "whole story." One at a time, we are taken through their lives and discoveries; for example, we journey with
Agassiz as he unearthed the signs of glacial advance and retreat, while also learning that his religious viewpoints may have clouded his scientific reasoning.
Diane graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of British Columbia and worked for Agriculture Canada for thirteen years as a research assistant, first at the Research Station in

Southern Manitoba was once covered by Lake
Agassiz. The farmland is so flat, you can watch your bird dog run for three days.
The massive Lake
Agassiz formed, filled, and drained several times, modifying the landscape and exposing the ancient greenstone and quartz.
