Skalistyi

 

a mountain range at the junction of the Ver-khoiansk and Sette-Daban ranges in the Yakut ASSR. The Skalistyi Range extends in a southeasterly direction for 150 km. The mountains reach 2,017 m in elevation and are composed chiefly of sandstones and limestones. The Tompo and Vos-tochnaia Khandyga rivers cut deep valleys. Larch forests cover the slopes of the Skalistyi Range, and mountain tundra is found at elevations above 1,300m.

In 1995-1996, 10 animals of each species were collected at each of three sites along the Russian coast of the Sea of Japan: (1) the Gulf of Opritchnik, near Cape Skalistyi (44[degrees]26'3"N, 135[degrees]59'5"E; depth 12-14 m); (2) the Primorye coast (45[degrees]51'1"N, 136[degrees]37'3"E; depth 111 m); (3) in Trinity Bay of Peter the Great Bay (42[degrees]34'6"N, 130[degrees]57'58"E; depth 1.5-15 m).
