The present research was aimed at introducing Late Permian
brachiopods in stratigraphic section so as to determine their age and stratigraphic correlation as well as stratigraphically examining the value of recognizing
brachiopod fossils (Figure 2).
Astonishingly, abundance did not help
brachiopod species persist for extended periods outside of the extinction event.
The phosphatized examples, in contrast, are elongate to round in outline and variably 'segmented' or spiriform; one specimen contains numerous
brachiopod shell fragments and was clearly produced by a predator or scavenger.
Although the systematic position of that
brachiopod is uncertain, its shell structure is of interest as it differs from those of the other Cambrian lingulate
brachiopods identified in the same region.
